Once again, this information is not being offered as particularly
enlightening about Tony’s crash, but I think it’s appropriate to share. It
concerns Tony’s opinion of John Kerner and his work.
Tony introduced me to John Kerner about three months ago in Arlington, WA.
I had heard of John previously when he had his shop in California. Tony
called me and told me John was building a IVP in Arlington and suggested
that I meet them there to view the project as Tony had been spending some
time there already. When I arrived, Tony pointed out some interesting
aspects of the project, most notably the aileron crossover tube aft of the
spar box instead of behind the instrument panel. Tony told me he thought
this was possibly the best built Lancair IVP project he had seen. He had
spoken highly of the innovations and quality on the phone and he was
effusive in his compliments during the review and inspection he and John
were kind enough to conduct for me.
This says nothing about what caused the crash, but it does say a lot about
Tony’s opinion of and confidence in John Kerner’s work. I think Tony would
want all of us to know this detail in the light of the current discussion.
Regards,
John Barrett
