No, we aren't the professionals -- we are merely the ones putting our own
lives at risk by flying experimental airplanes.  So we have a strong interest
in knowing what happened and how we can prevent its recurrence.

The report I read the other day sounded very much like an NTSB preliminary
report.  I'm not talking about the newspaper article -- that was next to
useless -- but the more detailed accounting posted subsequently.  And the
NTSB are without peer in this regard.

For the record, I don't look at crashes (cars or airplanes) hoping to see
gruesome and horrifying sights.  I try to learn lessons to keep the same
thing from happening to me.

What have I learned so far?  Well, I'm not sure I'd be able to reach the fuel
shutoff valve in my Lancair 360 with my shoulder harness on.  My seat
cushions and harness are not yet installed, so I can't tell just yet.  But
you can bet I'll make sure I can before I fly -- either by adding a lanyard
to the valve handle or by adding an inertia reel to my harness.
