OR 3) The system is shedding contamination faster than anticipated or normal and you have a problem. Without a filter to inspect you have no idea when your hydraulic system is about to self distract. The filter I used was a fuel filter (30 micron) from Airflow Performance, the same filter I used in the fuel supply. I installed the filter in the return line (low pressure) without a bypass. Due to the cavernous capacity of the filter the pump would be worn out before the filter clogged. If you want a bypass valve for a return side filter I would recommend a Kepner 1304A-1-24. This is a check valve with -4 JIC male fittings at each end and a 25 PSI cracking pressure. Placed in parallel to the filter it will bypass fluid if the filter clogs.
