On my first ES, I had the panel sections powder coated, but was not
happy with the results. I suspect that the metal was not cleaned properly
before coating, because it would chip off around each of the socket head cap
screws holding the panel and instruments in place. Each would end up with a
shiny, bare ring around it that I had to carefully re-touch with paint.
Perhaps different powder coating materials differ, but my impression was
that the coating was pretty brittle, so the least flexing, as around a screw
head, would pop it off. This time I'll paint my panel pieces.
