I had to get rid of my 1985 Honda Civic 4WD as they powder coated the rear axle. First, one of the panhard rod attachments rusted away... No easy feat as it came from the factory about 2 mm thick stamped bracket. No big deal as I took some 4130 and gas welded on a new bracket. But big flakes of rust continued to form under the powder coating. Honda told me that they only warranted it for 10 years. My 1968 Chevelle has essentially the same rear end, but no problem after 33 years. My brother-in-law has a l911 car... no problem. But neither of these are powder coated So when the axle fluid started leaking thru the rust and leaving puddles on the drive, I sold it. All because the powder coating created a great climate for corrosion of the steel. If I had known that the powder coating would do this, I would have removed it when I first got the car as it is a much better car than its replacement.
