To Steve Reeves:
If you install a GPS/Comm you won't want to be turning it off all the time
in flight since you'll probably be using the GPS for navigation and, at
least on the King (I'm assuming from what you said it's a KLX-135A), it
takes some time - 15 - 20 seconds - for it to reinitialize every time you
turn it on, e.g., you won't be able to use the comm part of the King until
it reinitializes. Also, it's likely that if you're following a stored flight
plan, turning off and on, repeatedly, will cause it to become confused. I
fly with the King and the manual requires that you insert the ID of the
starting airport (or location) for it to recognize your f-plan. The problem
is, the thing may keep trying to identify where you are at the time you turn
it on as the start ID.
It's also very nice to be able to stay with ATC on one com and dial up ATIS,
or whatever, on the other one.
Put in some method of switching between comms without turning either off -
you'll be glad you did.
