My wife's '82 240 D sedan runs all the door locks plus (some other stuff) using vacuum. The driver's door has an exquisite little master valve that switches vacuum to the other doors to operate the lock and un-lock mechanisms. the thing will hold vacuum for several weeks and the locks will still operate so there isn't much leakage (the car has an "accumulator" tank that "stores" the vacuum when the engine driven pump isn't running. The valve is plastic, about two inches long and maybe 3/8th inch in dia. It has a metal plunger with O-ring seals and is cross-drilled at one end so you can connect something to it. The valve body has slip-on hose bibs that look to be about 1/8th to 3/16th inch dia. I found out about the valve when I bought one for her car and then found it wasn't needed (lousy troubleshooting) - think I paid about $5 or so for it.
