The doors by themselves do not perfectly match the contour of the wing. All doors have a little twist to them which make them either stand proud in one corner or sit low in another. By releasing the doors this difference can be split, thus reducing the body work required to fair in the doors to the wing. 2. When applying the electrical tape make sure you use a good quality tape and make sure you clean the door edges with acetone to assure the tape sticks well. Don't stretch the tape too much. It takes a lot of tape (more than one roll). 3. Mound up a lot of micro before you set the doors. I smoothed it out and there was not enough micro to completely fill the step. Smooth the micro and fill in the gap between the tape on the door and the wing to provide complete filling of the gap. Don't overfill this gap or the door won't come out very easily. 4. I used a rubber mallet to knock out my doors and it worked well but the doors were in there pretty tight. Overall I am happy I released the doors which now have a nice even gap and good fit. Jim Thomas L2K#166 - Groveland, CA [Just a suggestion... electrical tape (the black plastic kind) is notorious for sticking very well to itself but not so well to other objects. You can save yourself a lot of frustration by using either packaging tape or duct tape for your releases. Packaging tape is only a few mils thick, duct tape lays up about .008 per layer, so you can customize the thickness of your releases. Don't be too anal about the wrinkles, as they are a breeze to fill after you pop the part loose. ] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://members.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please remember that purchases from the Builders' Bookstore assist with the management of the LML.
