Good point....I'm not totally sure what my family would do either.  

I know I said that I wouldn't comment about the subject any further.
But, I'm not talking about a Willie Nillie install.  I'm talking about
installing a system myself and having a authorized shop test and sign
off my work.  If it doesn't work, they can indicate what is wrong, give
some suggestions and see me the next time I want to get through the test
and signoff.  If the install passes the test, then there is no
difference between me (the manufacturer) installing the system and the
avionics shop installing the system.  Passing the install test is the
important part of the install.

I'm not sure that I agree with your statement about if the
manufacturer's sell to me they would be obligated to sell to someone
else.  I am the "manufacturer" of the plane......that should qualify me
for the ability to buy the equipment.  Other people do not fall in the
same category regardless of whether they can program a VCR or not.

The analogy of the engine install is the best yet.  Is Lycoming fearful
that my family may sue them because I installed my engine?  I think the
answer to that would be 'no'.  But, the question of what my family would
do is an excellent question.  Probably something that I should have
thought about before I decided to build one of these things.
Or.....maybe not.
