I don't want to get in between the combatants in this Garmin issue. I only
want to point out that I was able to buy a brand new Continental engine
($30,000+) and install it without the use of "Continental approved"
technicians. To my knowledge this had no affect on whether Continental
provides me with technical help or warranty protection. I have had several
conversations with their technicians and had some warranty issues. If
Continental treats their "authorized dealers" any different than they treated
me then the dealers are treated extremely well.
I tend to believe the engine is a bit more critical to flight than avionics.
So is the propeller (same situation as with the engine: put it on myself,
Hartzel treats me great).
I don't know about the majority of builders, but I tend to vote with my feet
and my dollars. If I don't like the service, I leave. If I don't like the
product, I don't buy it. But I recognize that the suppliers of the services
and products should set and enforce their own policies. History will tell us
if their policies were good ones.
Don't know if this will help but it is a point of view to consider.
