Ameriking sells power converters going either direction; 28 to 12 and vice
versa.  You can purchase direct or through Pacific Coast Avionics and so on.
They also sell an inexpensive and very good ELT that uses D cell batteries
and can be used for a short time as a handheld for voice transmissions on
guard.
