It has been noted here previously that the Lancair IV tends to cruise with
the elevator counterweight top surface extended about 1/4 inch above the top
surface of the horizontal stabilizer. This creates a bit of extra drag and
a potential icing hazard if the counterweight is squared off rather than
rounded at the front.
Gary Burns wrote me to let me know that his plane and several others in
Australia set the pitch of the horizontal stabilizer at -0.4 degrees instead
of the -0.6 degrees specified in the book, and the aircraft flew with the
counterweight flush to the surface of the stabilizer.
