If you make them from 1/4" tubing, cut off at about a 45-degree angle, and let them stick down about 1/2", you can then slot the rear of the cowling to slide over them. Then the drain tube will stick down maybe 1/4" to 3/8" inch into the airstream. In the manuals, they just say to use a flush plate on the fuselage flange, and make a matching hole in the cowling. This means that any drainage will seep between the cowling and fuselage flange, and then slime its way back along the belly. Messy! I'm forwarding Eric Parlow's post about the (required) sniffle valve for the IO-550 to the Lancair tech guys. If I get any separate reply, I'll post it here. BTW, I've finished the installation of the TruTrak pitch and roll servo's in my ES, so if anyone needs some advice on how not to do it, I have copious notes. I volunteered to work with Kirk Hammersmith and Jim Younkin (TruTrak) as the ES guinea pig. The installation came out a good bit different than for the IV's, but in the end we worked out a nice, neat installation that should be pretty easy for the next builders.
