X-Mailing-List: lancair.list@olsusa.com Reply-To: lancair.list@olsusa.com Mime-Version: 1.0 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> << Lancair Builders' Mail List >> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> Greetings, I have always planned on installing my air induction system such that I would have filtered air from a filter in the baffle in front of cylinder #2 and unfiltered ram air from the scoop in the cowling. There has been much discussion here as to the benefits of the ram air (1-1.5"Hg). As I proceed with firewall forward installation I see that the dual air induction system is going to add quite a bit of work, complexity and stuff to an already tight cowling. I have to ask myself if it is really necessary to have the dual induction system. What is the common wisdom out there regarding this subject? Did you choose an alternate air because of icing? Was it because you wanted unrestricted ram flow for high altitude cruise yet need filtering for low and ground operations? What say you all? I would like to throw out the proposal that one use only the scoop in the cowling with a light filtering to keep the crud out, yet not completely negate the ram effect. I am certainly willing to give up some ram effect for simplicity.
