Since the little NACA molds are also still included in the kit, I called tech support several months back, asking should I grind out the molded vents and use the extra ones supplied, or just use what's already there? The answer was that the molded ones were ready to go. Seeing Charlie's comment on LML this morning, however, prompted me to go back and look at them, and, as I remembered, they have no cover at the back. That is, back of the scoop is simply a wall that comes up and meets the edge of the skin. Are these going to work OK, or should I have ground out a proper scoop, with the vent line recessed back in? Fuel filters: On my last ES, I had a problem with a little metal chunk ending up in the Dukes boost pump. The chunk of metal was small, but the repair bill wasn't. Seems to me that a lot of builders are planning a fuel filter between the fuel selector and the boost pump, but that violates Charlie's dictum not to have one ahead of the pump, and also poses real problems of fuel on the cockpit floor when you change the filter element. What to do? The standard gascolator low on the firewall protects the engine's fuel system just fine, but what's the best way to provide some extra filtration protection that would include the boost pump?
