Rob Wolf:
When I first went to Rockwell, back in '69, I worked with a supervisor named
Ron Starkey who had lost a hand to above the wrist, AND was a first-rate
pilot! Ron had a general purpose prosthetic device that allowed him to
manipulate the yoke and his flying was no different than any other pilot.
(No more and no less crummy landings than the next guy!). He drove, hunted,
fished and in general didn't seem all that actively hindered by the device.
Rob, your CFI friend should encourage the potential pilot to go for it. As
we all know, for the pilot, flying's mostly a mental exercise anyway.
Good luck to him!
