Bill obviously read Dan Schafer's post on this idea and raises an important 
point.  I also hope nobody replaces factory-recommended phenolic with arrow 
stock.  However, Dan's idea of arrow stock for generic bolt holes is a good 
one which can be used some places, but not others.  Just like click-bond 
studs, which are great for low stress conections but not for high stress 
connections. (I was going to use them to attach my rudder cables to the 
firewall.  I called up Click-Bond and found out that they're not anywhere 
near strong enough for that.)

Related to canopy latches, I played with the hooks engaging the delrin blocks 
and was amazed at how much force is applied to the delrin.  I wouldn't be 
happy with locally reinforced bolt holes there (though it may be fine, I 
don't realy know), but solid flox under the aluminum striker plate (with or 
without arrow stock) seemed like it would be adequate.  However, I couldn't 
come up with a way to completely core out this area and shove the wet flox 
down through the latch hook holes as it was not possible for me to get a 
coring tool (a Dremel bit) down in there.  As a result, I completely cut off 
the aft face of the canopy rollover under the striker plates and did a good 
coring out job.  I could have closed it out with flox, but decided to put 3/8 
inch thick phenolic there and covered it with 6 BID.  Plenty strong now.

Thanks to Ross Connell, who says Lancair will be amending the instructions 
with better guidance in this area, so chumps like me don't have to bother all 
you guys with this again...
