I have a friend who just became a CFI. He has an interesting problem with a
one-handed teenager who wants to fly. Here's his e-mail to me -- maybe some
of you have ideas? Feel free to send them to me personally (rwolf99@aol.com)
or to him directly (mattknapp@alum.mit.edu) if you have any ideas, or know
any one-handed pilots.

interesting session with the potential new students
2 brothers and the teenage son of one of the brothers
we had an hour ground session for Q&A etc. before flying.
One brother almost finished his license 3 years ago, moved,
didn't pick things up again and just needs to scrape the rust off and
get it over with. The other knows a bit about airplanes but has never
really flown. The son was really quiet during all of this, and was
wearing typical teen-wear, in this case a big baggy sweatshirt. The
father said "and this guy just wants to give flying a try to see if he's
interested in persuing a license, but we'll have to make some special
considerations because..."
and had the son show me that he's missing his left hand.
oh
well, it can be done, I know a one-legged pilot, but if the kid decides
to go ahead, it will take some extra work.
