The problem I have is that I can't get the canopy latch delrin blocks to properly engage the latches when assembled per the "Canopy Latch Installation Supplement, Rev 1, 12-12-94". The kernel of the problem is that the drawings show the delrin block centered in the canopy rollover, yet it needs to be straddling the aft face of the canopy rollover for the latches to engage. The drawings (Figure C2 on page 17 and drawing FM-1100E, rev A) show the black anodized striker plate sitting on the forward face of the canopy rollover with the delrin block bolted directly to the striker plate. This makes the delrin block centered in the rollover core (which you cut out). The critical dimension on the drawings is the 3/8" gap between the forward face of the fuselage rollover and the center of the delrin block. This gap is called out on Figure C2 as 3/8 inch but is not dimensioned on the drawing FM-1100E rev A. However, the fuselage rollover and the canopy rollover are already 3/8 inch apart. Therefore, if the delrin block is centered in the rollover core, it's too far forward for the latches to engage. What to do? The quick fix is to leave the striker plate on the forward face of the canopy rollover and move the delrin block aft by placing 3 washers between the block and the striker plate. Mark didn't like this idea and neither do I. His suggestion was to cut away the forward face of the canopy rollover 1/2 inch around the striker plate, core it out, and build up the aft face (where the core was) with enough BID to give the proper spacing between the delrin blocks and the latches. This would be 4-6 BID, depending on tolerances. This BID would flow up onto the forward face as is standard practice for glass-to-glass areas. The resulting configuration is the striker plate bolted to a glass-to-glass section of the canopy rollover. A bunch of extra work but doable in a day, for sure. - Rob Wolf >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
