Don,

Something doesn't sound right.  The centering mechanism in the strut is
a "V" shape cut at the bottom where a key way on the shaft engages it.
At full extended position, the key centers itself in the "V".  The self-
centering should only occur at the fully extended position only.  (i.e.
the weight is off the wheel for retraction.)  When the weight is on
the wheel, you have a certain amount of sag of the strut causing the key
to disengage the "V".  Send me your phone number.  I'll call you.  Maybe we
