Question: With the TCM  TSIO550E1B engine does the air/oil separator have to
be mounted so that the bottom of the air/oil separator is level with or
above the point that the oil returns into the engine?

If there is a suction from the engine or enough positive pressure in the
air/oil separator it could be mounted lower.  I don't have room on the
firewall to mount it high enough so as to be above the return to the engine.
I used the Lancair drawing to lay out all the firewall penetrations.

As a point of information, anyone desiring to install an Airwolf Remote Oil
Filter, do install the adapter on the engine before installing the engine on
the firewall.  I had to cut 3/16" off the vertical stud that the oil filter
screws on in order for the adapter to bottom and seal.  The installation
instructions from Airwolf cover this operation, just grind the stud to the
proper length.  This isn't easy with the engine mounted without removing the
oil filter adapter from the engine.  Not much room to work.
