It's really not that difficult I don't think, but you're right - you do have to be careful about the amount of adhesive you use. Like all similar bonding chores with composite materials, clecos are a large part of the secret. You fit the parts together in place using the clamps. When you're happy with trial fits, you then bond the hinge halves to the cowling - (doesn't even have to be in place at this point), using the clecos to align the hinge in the correct orientation. If desired, you can hang the cowling back in place during set to verify you have it right.
