I am not flying yet, so can't give a personal testimonial on how easy the pins are to remove and install. I can tell you that there is a trophy winning L IVP (1st at Arlington, 3rd at Oshkosh) with our hinges and the owner is very happy. Last I spoke with him he had several hundred hours on the plane and still was pleased. Jim Rahm has hinge fasteners on his EngineAir V8 powered L IVP and he pulls them at every airshow between demo flights. His are the aluminum hinges because we weren't making ours when he built his plane, but I think he's happy with the concept. I do know that every time I remove the cowl from my Beech Sierra (and the other GA airplanes I've owned), the task of removing the fasteners and then lining them back up each one at a time has been a real drag. I don't think I'll miss that one bit. We recommend silver soldering a hex head bolt on the end of the pin wire and having a locknut embedded in the cowling. You simply insert the pin, engage the threads and screw it in for installation - do the reverse for removal. Easy and quick. The pins are undersized for this application, so that friction will be appropriate for adequate stiffness, but they slide to place with hand pressure. Hope this helps.
