Hi Guys,
I spoke to Mark Mahnke today about my fillet end caps (extension fairings).
He told me the driving measurements in deciding their heighth is as follows:
a) When the gear doors open and meet each other the curved part must clear
the wheels. That part is the bottom of the aft wing fillet (extension
fairing) as cut out and attached to the doors. The fillets should move down
on the fuselage for this. b) The fillets must be high enough to have the
cutout below and inboard of the fillet radius so the door is cut out of the
bottom of the fillet, the fillets should be moved up for this. These are
opposing requirements. Find the happy mid point.
Mark suggested the book measurements using a plumb bob are only the first
steps in determining the locations of the fillet caps to the fuselage. In
other words, once again the factory has not kept up on revisions since
incorporating the long extension fairings. Chap 19, fig 6 measurements are
not accurate for this purpose. If done correctly the doors will open and
the tires will pass in and out without interference or hinging the gear door
lip. I am fortunate that I found this out today and not tomorrow.
