I dare say that if a poll were taken there would be quite a few others that are more than interested in hearing the (an) outcome of this rather important subject........especially in light of the concerns that have been raised about potential fuels availability and the ongoing (never ending!) questions that are raised about the optimum maintenance and operating techniques of the current slew of reciprocating piston engines. Which by the way, unless I have really missed the mark here, is exactly what all (and herein I do mean ALL) of us use to power our little pride and joys! It is precisely for this reason that this "argument" (a very poor choice of terms in my opinion) should be aired to (some) conclusion. After all what is this forum all about but to inform the rest of the community (US !!!!) about those subjects near and dear to them? That Mr. Scales chooses to characterize that "No one else understands what you are saying, anyway." is a disservice to Mr. Scales and the intelligence of all of the rest of this forum's membership.. Even without too much technical knowledge it is quite apparent to every lay person on this forum that the crux of the issue is the veracity and provability/substantiation of a chemical-mechanical/engineering preposition that could (potentially) be of great significance to all users of internal combustion reciprocating powerplants.............again I point out to you that this is what you and I use OR are planning to use for our aircraft in most cases. Simply put IT IS IMPORTANT TO US ALL and the possible benefits (in more than just operating efficiencies and costs) are significant......................certainly if we are to believe one of the proponents.. BTW Marv, the Mazda powerplant (because of its tendencies for higher temperatures) is/should be a perfect example where this technology (if proven to do what is claimed) would greatly enhance alternative powerplant viability for aircraft installation..........and I would put to you stimulate the current major manufacturers into greater action in their newer developments endeavors than the market is currently capable of doing. All of this is, could be, only good for the experimental aviation community at large. That you (both) would choose to stifle such a discussion in an open forum is (just!) unbelievable. "Posturing and ego blasting" is certainly not constructive to the discussion and resolution of the issues, however I put it to all of you, who is not inclined to act in this manner when they talk about topics that they feel strongly about ? Ladies and gentlemen, this is aviation..........and we are all quite excited about it (rightfully so), otherwise we wouldn't be here but rather on Martha Stewart's forum arguing optimum/correct dinner place settings and whether the eating utensil usage order is still valid and proper in this day and age. I am quite confident that all of the participants on this forum are quite capable of discerning the wheat from the chaff for themselves. They wouldn't be engaged in the endeavors that brought them to this forum, if they couldn't see the forest from the trees. The men and women quietly listening to the goings on can make up their own minds. Please, let's be realistic here and let them do just that. Marv, your oversight of the forum is greatly appreciated. However there was a specific reason that the Internet community chose to use the word moderator for the function you perform and specifically not censor. The end result desired herein could have been accomplished in a much better fashion without compromising the information needed by us all. To be sure this is but one opinion. If I am alone, so be it. I've been at the controls in 200 & 1/2 searching for the rabbit in less than desirable meteorological conditions before, I'll wear this one gladly. If Marv should allow this to be posted, I encourage others to speak up and voice an opinion. It is important to us all to know that you are out there. I return to the solitude and quietness of the back of the bleachers..........or the cockpit on approach at night on those winter days where ninety seconds seems like an eternity, under the right conditions. Anyone who wants to participate in further discussions about ceramic engine coatings is welcome to subscribe to this list and take up the discussion over there. As you all know, if you get more than 3 people in a room and try to make all of them happy all of the time you are doomed to failure. Since we have over 500 people in *this* "room", it is obvious to me that there is no way in hell I'd ever be able to make everyone happy regarding this particular subject. Consequently I've decided that this other approach should pretty much appease everyone involved here on the Lancair Mail List by giving you the ability to either opt into or out of those discussions as you see fit. This new list is going to be unmoderated, as I simply do not have the time to approve or reject the postings that will be coming to it. That job on the LML is already quite time consuming and so the Ceramics list will be pretty much on autopilot. The only delivery mode will be immediate, which means there will be no daily digest for that list. The only restriction that I have imposed upon it is that anyone who wants to post to the Ceramics Mail List must be a subscriber. I will attempt to send individual emails to anyone who has participated in these discussions on the LML who weren't subscribers to insure that they understand that they now have a forum for them to air their views. Subscriptions will be accepted immediately, but please wait to post anything to the list until I send out a message letting everyone know that the area is officially open. If it happens that we get an overwhelming response to this new forum by having more than 1/2 of the subscribers to the LML subscribing, I will consider that a vote in favor of allowing the discussions to continue on the LML and we'll move everything back here at that time. I hope this meets with everyone's approval, as I simply don't have any other way to ascertain what the majority opinion is.
