LML,
Q--Again remember the engine manufactures wont change the speck for it is
certified , now we fly by the book ---- and fly the engines rich of peek [ @
100% power- peek +150 deg. , 75% power -peek +100 to125 degrees plus and 65%
power -peek + 75 to 100 degs. ]
A--This is what the TCM "BOOK" says:
TCM Operation and Installation Manual Form X30614, Page 6-20
6-32 CRUISE CONTROL BY EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE (EGT)
If Exhaust gas temperature indicator is used as an aid to leaning proceed as
follow:
1.Adjust rpm and manifold pressure for desired cruise setting
2.SLOWLY move the mixture control toward "lean" while observing EGT gauge.
Note position on the instrument where the needle "peaks" or starts to drop
as mixture is leaned further.
3.At cruise settings between 65% and 75% advance mixture control toward the
"rich until EGT is 25F colder than peak. At cruise setting below 65% engine
may be operated at peak EGT.
CAUTION... Do not attempt to adjust mixture by use of EGT at settings above
75% of maximum power. Also, remember engine power will change with altitude
conditions. Changes in altitude or outside air temperature will require
adjustments in manifold pressure and fuel flow. See TSIO-550-E performance
curves.
Q--His blanket statement was that if you fly an a/c engine lean of peek and
by the book you will burn it up way before tbo.
A--NOWHERE does it say to run the TSIO-550-E "lean" of peak EGT.
I recommend running 75 to 100 F "rich" of peak EGT for best engine
durability.
Q--Fadec might help this problem.
A--FADEC is by the "book" you have no choice! It also will take the fuel
system set-up out of the picture.
ERic--
