>What does everybody think/know about the new FAA certified fuel AGE85.<
I hear the aromatics (ether/alcohol/MTBE/other oxygenated stuff) used as
additives for the fuel strip the lubricants from the valves and cause wear and
or sticking. I also talked to someone who said adding TEL to fuel periodically
will recoat the valves with lubricant. Who knows? It would be interesting to see
studies of side by side comparisons with different types of gas to get the feel
for the effect lack of TEL has on the TBO. I also wonder what kind of vapor
problems these aromatics have at altitude -- I seem to remember the FAA having a
problem with the Lindberg replica because of this concern, warranted or not.
Unfortunately, I doubt that we will ever see facts, it's expensive to do and
gov't and economics are involved. There is much more power in the "auto owner
lobby" than we have and it did nothing to curb the reformulated gas fiasco in
Milwaukee. I never saw a study on engine effect, but heard many claims and such
-- kinda like the ceramic coating thing. I haven't bought my engine yet, but I
need to find a 180-200 hp that will legally run auto gas -- I'm sure the day is
coming that I'll need it.
