STRATUS DEFECT

if you are a purchaser of an early STRATUS  IT WILL FAIL
                                                                             AND NO ONE TOLD YOU
if this was on a production car; the seller and manufacture would be in front of a CONGRESSIONAL HEARING

about the SAFETY ISSUE(s)

The Stratus is a wonderful device; if you use it, you have become dependent on it for safety. in the middle of a flight
what would you do if you could no longer could no longer access ADS-B?

THE PROBLEM

the first stratus built had a failure prone part;

 the charging port was glued to the circuit board and not supported by the sturdy case.

the result over time will be that the charging port will become disconnected from the board and you will not be able to charge the device

AFFECTED UNITS
starting with approximately Serial number 017xxxx the problem was corrected. which might be about 6,000 units.I was not able to get an exact serial number.

SPORTY's SOLUTION
The solution that Sporty and Appareo came up with was to extend the warranty to 18 months from the original twelve. After that it will cost you $150
to repair the design defect.

MY PROPOSED SOLUTION
inform he flying public of the issue and extend the free repair out to five years on these early serial numbers. WHY, because the failure is not YoUR fault.
We get wonderful information on a regular basis from Sporty's on how to use this device. they inform up of the best way to use the STRATUS.
why not tell us about the potential problem??

MY REQUEST
i asked Sporty's to inform the flying community about this defect and  jack Lynch, of Sporty's,  told me "lets just address your problem"
Jack told me that just a small percentage of the units sold were being returned for "repair" due to this DESIGN DEFECT.
i asked if that was ONE PERCENT;
                                                   jack's reaction was if i had asked to eat his first-born  "Where did you get one percent", he asked.

and when i asked about the $150 solution, Jack told me that Sportys was undertaking this $150 fix themselves, I said "but Appareo offered me the same $150 deal.
jack told me that Sportys was partners with Appareo.

So there you have it; a known failure that you are not informed about.
I wonder if Sporty's would have the same attitude if they were not the vender and sell as seller.

my reaction SHAME, SHAME, SHAME
