Thanks for the replies to my questions about the deformed
tires. I have decided not to use them.
After 5 days, the tires did relax and open up. However, they
do not look normal. Other times I have ordered these tires, they have looked
pretty symmetrical across the plane of symmetry. These are not, and I have
discovered cracks. The photos show the cracks between the post-it notes. The
longer crack is difficult to see in the photo, but the shorter one shows up
pretty well. The third photo shows more clearly all the band-clamp marks. They
are on the sidewall and also appear as flat spots around the circumference. It
appears to me that the tires were band clamped as a single stack with four
clamps. I must have gotten the first three tires from the stack, and I think
that they were band clamped right up until my order was packed. At that time
the clamps were cut.
Why were these so bad in comparison to the others I have received in the past? My theory is that they sat in the warehouse for a long time in the clamped stack. When a shipment of these tires is received, I think it is important that the clamps be cut immediately.
