I too am working on the rudder, and found that the right rudder skin is wider
than of the sternpost.  To correct this, I have sanded the edge of the right
skin until it fits between the right and left skins of the vertical
stabilizer.  This has reduced the width of the joggle, but there is enough
joggle left to provide sufficient overlap with the left skin for a good Hysol
bond.

I have come to the conclusion that the dimensions given in the manuals are
not hard and fast.  As an example, when I cross referenced some sternpost
dimensions between two chapters in the manual, I found discrepancies greater
than one inch in several of the widths.  The width that had been built into
the IV fastbuild I received was a third width that lay outside the range set
by the two dimensions given in the manuals.  This I believe caused the right
rudder skin to be wider than the sternpost.

But wait, It gets better.  In chapter 24, the height of the top of the
instrument panel is shown in one diagram to be 13.75 inches.  When you turn
the page this same dimension is stated as 14.75 inches.  The height I ended
with is 14.00 inches which is, at least, within the range set by the two
dimensions listed in the manual.

When I was working for NBC in Washington, DC, our general rule for every
construction project was "file, form and fit at time of assembly."  So far
this has been true for the IV that I am building.
