Hi All,
I understand the fear and concern around this issue. I'll be honest, I really don't like the idea of a auto hood latching mechanism. What do you do when you need to get out, and fast?
I believe the canopy open issue is a non-issue. Yes, planes have gone down after the canopy opened, but it has also been demonstrated that the airplane is controllable. So what is the problem? The canopy or the pilot? Stay calm fly the airplane, arrest the tendency to participate in PIO. This airplane has freaking 310 horses hanging off the nose. You apply power it is going to fly regardless of what position the canopy is in.
Having an extra layer of "security" that would get in my way of egressing the airplane in an emergency is far more important to me than making sure the canopy doesn't open.
I really like knowing that there isn't much between me and outside if I need it. For me the risk is getting trapped in the airplane when I don't want to be there, I seen virtually no risk in flying the airplane with an open canopy in comparison.
Thanks for the discussion however, I really like reading everyone's views on it. Thank you for letting me express mine, I mean no offense :)
Best,
Kevin
