Steve, your old sock suggestion is an elegant solution. Prior to departure last fall in Greenville, I pulled 4ZQ over to the fuel pumps and had a little wakeup call cause my checklist failed to mention anything concerning the tow bar attached to the nose….could have been a disaster. It is now the first checklist item but more importantly, the tow bar never leaves my hand unless stowed in the baggage compartment. Even it the offending item is on the checklist and assuming I can read it, that's no guarantee of success in the single pilot environment…..
