Bill,
I have had the IV-P’s prop de-ice on twice and was in ice once in 200 hrs. I guess it worked, as I had very light rime on the wings and windscreen. I live
in Arizona, so I don’t see ice like the North East and North West. Many times I have thought installing the prop de-ice was a waste of time and effort and then I think….if I “have to” descend thru ice in order to land, then I want it there. Great debate
item better served when I have a scotch and water in one hand. I make every effort to stay out of ice.

Thanks for your input. How often have you used your system? Did it work as advertised?
In hindsight, would you go to the time and expense to install the system again?

Bill,
I had a Bonanza with prop de-ice. Slightly different Cont. 550 engine but the brushes mounted on
the top side of the engine case and the slip ring mounted to the crank flange. The Air Conditioning compressor was mounted on the back side of the engine. The Hartzell de-ice system requires a fairly expensive timer that heats only one blade at a time. I
have de-ice on my 4-balde MT prop with a front mounted AC compressor. I had to design and manufacture the entire slip ring and brush mounting system on my IV-P.

I purchased a used Hartzell prop, supposedly removed from a IV-P. It was advertised as reversible with deice and it included the governor, the brush-block but not the slip-ring
assembly or any of the other deice components.
I have contacted Hartzell but no reply. If any of the members has a hartzell prop with deice, I would really appreciate some help with the component layout, especialy with the
brushblock as it mounts on the engine and the sliprings as they attach to the prop.. A photo would really be appreciated.
