How about a Free Tactile Reminder?  I have not tried this but it ought to
Work.  Cut an old sock about 4" from the toe and slide it over the Throttle.
AFTER the canopy latch is confirmed down and you have pushed up on the
Canopy to verify latched, REMOVE the sock.  Then put the Sock on the
Throttle after shutdown.  I know this sounds silly, but it just might work."

Not silly at all.  ANYTHING built into your procedure that adds a layer of defense in terms of checking, checking again, and an alarm if something is not right will help.  Again,  the problem arises if you get distracted entering, checking, flying, landing, and exiting the airplane.  Unfortunatley we are trying to foresee a set of circumstances we probably can not imagine that takes you attention away from a potentially life threatening situation.

You need something as close to fail-safe as possible.  Adding layers of defense is GOOD, not ideal, but definitely an improvement.
