Before these two backup plates cracked did you notice if the pointy end was
on center with no wobble?  Did the trailing edge of the backplate wobble
before using the washers/spacers?  Approximately how much wobble was
observed?  Was the engine ever rotated with only the backplate bolted in
place (no spinner installed) to check for runout of the trailing edge of the
backplate?  Was the runout measured and, if so, what was that finding?
