All,
Progress has been made as of last night. I finally finished shimming and safety wiring the right main gear leg. Now both gear legs are shimmed. It doesn’t look pretty but the shims appear to be in well enough to have stopped any movement in the vertical and horizontal planes of motion.
I used stainless clamps over a 3M anti-chaffing tape. This tape is clear but thick like a rubberized plastic. I put the tape of over the shim material and then the clamp over that.
I am curious if anyone thinks I might need an additional clamp closer to the socket to provide additional security to prevent the shims from working their way out? If I did this I would put one clamp lower and the other higher.
Thanks
George
