Report on the inquiry:

There were a number of off-list responses, no doubt to maintain a degree on anonymity while sharing some personal experiences.  Apparently, there is opportunity to straddle the two front seats and accomplish something close enough to be considered acceptable by the MH Club judges (presumably influenced by the scope of your personal minimum equipment list).  This experience summary applies to both center stick and side stick controls, and apparently also applies to RV's, Columbia's, and Cirrus.  A small folded towel stiffed between and acting as a filler between seats apparently resolves any posterior conflict with spar hardware.

I am still a bit uncertain about throttle/prop/mixture knobs and how they might prove troublesome.  One individual simply referenced the more vertical nature of the motion compared to what might otherwise interfere with the engine control quadrant (using a more horizontal movement).  Obviously, lift is dependent on your thrust vector.

There were no references to required gymnastic, circus or physically flexible qualities of your crew member, as one recent List Serve post suggested.

While one could seek a very high altitude in a pressurized ES-P or LIVP prior to initiating this maneuver, I would want to be VERY cautious not to inadvertently actuate the door seal switch during a distracting moment, resulting in a sudden cabin decompression and the subsequent sudden enlargement of soft containers and inflated structures.

I suppose one should consult the regional approach plates for the Minimum Safe Altitude (MSA) in the area prior to engaging the autopilot and proceeding to prioritize cockpit distractions.

I hope this topic has added some texture to an otherwise professional exchange of Lancair ideas.
