Mike,

I would go with the sealed bulkhead passthrough push rods for both elevator and ailerons.  The boots have two short comings that I am aware of.  An attention getting uncommanded roll if an aileron boot blows in flight.  Not fun in IMC.  Second, is loss of pressurization if any boot fails.  Not fun at FL250.

Some 4P guys that have boots told me that they recommend changing them at ??? intervals to reduce the two risks above.  That can't be much fun either.

My take on your fuel question for me is personal.  My bladder can't out last my 95 gal tanks, but others my differ.

Subject: LIV P advice

With my new IV P project I have several questions.  They are:

1.  Currently have boots installed.  Should I install push/pull compensator and aileron pressure box?  Have gotten differing advice from two "experts".

2.  Wing has aluminum chase for the aileron pushrod, allowing for an additional fuel cell.  I've been told the aluminum will expand and contract at a different rate than the glass, eventually creating a leak.  My choices are to close the bay and make it dry, or remove the aluminum and replace it with a carbon or fiberglass chase.  My estimation is that it will drop the total fuel from about 112 gallons to 95-100 gals.  For those flying IV-Ps, is it worth the trouble for 12-17 gallons?

3.  The hydraulic power pack had been removed from the project.  I've found a source for a 12-volt power pack.  Anyone have, or know where I can find a complete power pack with a 24 volt motor?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as the project continues.  Hope to see many of you at Oshkosh.  Thanks in advance for your comments and advice.
