The cheapest engine dryer I have found is to simply remove the oil cap immediately upon shut down (literally the first thing I do when I get out of the plane).  You can immediately see all of the steam rising out of the filler neck.  I hook the cap on the latch on my oil door, which keeps it from dropping back in place.  I replace the oil cap when I am ready to drive away from the plane.  This has eliminated all of the grey gooey buildup inside the filler neck.  Try it.  You will be surprised at the results.  And the shipping is free!

BTW, if you are prone to forgetting things (like putting the oil cap back on, which is important so as to not let moisture into the engine after cool down), you might want to hang something big and bright from the filler cap to remind you – or just put the car keys on the cowling next to the filler door.

Guys, I have received several requests for my engine drier.  The first was Craig Schulze

on 6/22 and everyone else on 6/23 or later.

To prevent this from turning into a bidding contest, I will offer the unit to the earliest replier (Craig S.), then if he decides not to purchase, to the next person interested.

Shipping will be $ 30 and unit comes with full set of instructions.

Best Regards, Bill Hogarty
