Hi everyone!
Has any Lancair List subscriber tried the Headsets Inc ANR Module kit which
turns a standard head set in to a noise cancelling device? I have tried a
number of ANR headsets (Lightspeed, Softcomm etc) but am not inclined to
give up my trusty David Clark's for the horrendous price they command. It
seems to me that their ANR abilities are not so wonderful that they should
cost so much! Nevertheless a quieter cockpit environment would be better
so I am looking at fitting the module. However, any steer as to their
usefulness would be appreciated.
Incidentally, for an old fellow like me the testing of the various types of
ANR headset revealed an interesting byproduct. I felt I was not wholly 'on
top' of the aircraft during takeoff and landing when the ANR was turned on.
This was because, unwittingly, over the years I had developed audio cues
which were now closed off. In other words I was expecting to hear things
like engine noise which were blanked out. It may be that, in time, using
ANR gives the wearer the ability to get those cues back but, for my part, I
ended up turning the ANR on only in the cruise and off every time I did a
cruise check. I'd be interested in comment on this one?
