The Mac rocker switch is also a candidate for run away trim, as well as the
Mac stick grip.

In my case, I caught the problem on the ground.  I have my trim dual
wired--both grip and rocker switches on the panel.  I had several instances
of rudder trim running full stop from depressing the rocker switch during run
up----the cause?----the Mac decal around the rocker was touching the rocker
and not allowing it to reseat in the neutral position.
After taking a razor blade and trimming the decal for more clearance, the
problem disappeared.

The Mac stick grips can be perfectly functional and still be a factor in run
away trim as well---don't ever slip your palm over the top of the grip to get
more leverage!   I did this on my first departure in training with Mike
DeHate, and ran the trim to full stop.  Mike knocked my hand off the grip and
retrimmed as we were approaching the end of the runway.  He got us out of a
very bad situation.  (Another reason to have a factory pilot give you your
first training in the plane)

After that flight, I built an aluminum fitting that slides over the grip
below the round top which contains the switches.  This fitting keeps my hand
below the top and on the shaft at all times.

Thanks, Mike.  I wonder how many other novice LIV pilots you have saved with
your excellent training?

David Jones, Pecatonica, Illinois   PS--This being said, the Mac system is
still the
finest system available, and the problems
I am
                                                      reporting were due to
my own doing.
