some may laugh but get an exercise ball, you determine the height required , let a little air out and use it to get closer to the wheel well. I have found this to be  far better then any creeper. It works quite well. I would not use a clevis pin.

Subject: [LML] gas strut

After talking to the manufacturer, I found that they make this strut custom, in batches, for Lancair.  It is available nowhere else that I can find.  The Mc-carr part has threaded male ends, so it would require a flat eyelet to be welded on or bolted on somehow.  I can visualize how a deep nut with a flat tab could be fabricated, then reused, but why go to this trouble?  How have you veterans adapted this strut?  Also, does anyone have a simple solution to getting the nut tightened up in the wheelwell where only one hand can reach?  Would a clevis pin with a spring clip be better?

True, KCI puts a large markup on the parts, but we sure don’t want them to go away or decide not to support older kits.  Ed Gray
