That exact spring is available from McMaster Carr for $12.40 and it comes in a 130 lb force as well.  Since the force of the spring seems to affect the airspeed at which the gear will free fall, why don’t you go with the heavier spring??  As it weakens it will still be plenty strong to lower the gear.

Hey Guys,

Let’s give Lancair the benefit of doubt.  I don’t think they are gouging, just adding a reasonable mark up to their cost on parts.  My experience (post Joe) has been fair pricing and excellent service.  (Example, Michelle has shipped small stuff via USPS to save $$ on shipping)  We need Lancair to stay healthy and remain a parts and service source.  I try to buy as much as I can from them for that reason.  In January, I replaced the Gas Springs on our Legacy Gear.

Ed:

I ordered a replacement gas spring for my IV-P from McM/C and it turnout to be a lookalike only.  The unit came with threaded ends and was slightly shorted than needed.

I finally ordered from Lancair and had to wait months for the backorder.

Good Luck, Bill Hogarty

Who has the Mcmaster-Carr part no. for the gas spring on the 360 nose gear?  Lancair is charging about 70 bucks and who knows how old the parts are.  After Paul Hershorin’s gear up incident, I have decided to replace it.  It is only a 25 dollar part.  New ES kit is arriving today from Arizona, so I will be busy for a few years.  Ed Gray, dallas
