The
contour GPS is now the state of the art that people are using in race cars and planes. Pit crews are watching the race from their i
phones! They have a particular model for aviation that prevents the prop from being recorded onto the picture. I know someone who had his
mounted at the top of his tail and under the wing (yes two of them). His were the earlier versions before they came out with the GPS model. He
had a carbon/glass guy come out and lay a plastic film over the top of the tail and then laid a few layers of carbon fiber over it and then I
think baked it (I'm not a fabricator, so don't quote me on this process) but the mount came out beautiful and weighs less than a couple of
ounces. It was such a tight fit, I think he just used some sort of epoxy to glue the mount on or a couple of set screws. It has never come
loose and is so small and so light the extra ounce or two does not matter. However, you might need FAA permission to mount the camera externally,
so check your local FSDO and if they say " no problem, it's ok" make sure you write down the date and time and whom you spoke to. (that's the
aviation attorney in me talking) Finally, you might find a dealer who will be willing to give you a 20% price break if you order 3 or more.
