am i correct in these assumptions or should i spend more cash for a higher end transponder with more capabilities?  also, is it worth it to spend the cash and have a backup transponder now?

suggestions?

I have two GNS430s with TIS and fly a Beech with TCAD and TIS.  The TCAD shows up on the MX20 and the TIS on the 430.  I find it frustrating that they announce traffic (or traffic not available).  I spend too much time looking for that traffic.  I fly in the SF Bay Area where we have modes services.

My biggest problem with the transponder was lack of visibility.  We  installed an external antenna and no problems since.  We will see what happens in the wide open expanse on the way to OSH.

BTW, I have an empty room at OSH if someone needs a place to stay.  One of my passengers cancelled.
