Looking at the manual it appears to have a somewhat outdated panel and setup. Rather limited and non-flexible. The only thing close to glass panel is the GNS unit – they appear to have copied a huge amount of the Garmin manual for this and it takes up many pages in the manual.
I would think one of the most valuable uses of a simulator would be providing experience with glass panel flying – especially for experienced pilots who have most of their time with steam gauges – like me.
I would hate to think I have to start out my flight time in my L IVP getting used to the a/c with its complex systems and unforgiving flight envelope at the same time I am experiencing initial orientation to glass panel stuff.
Is it possible the software is programmable for different MFD units?

Ralf,
I don't have any time on this Orbx product but have flown FSX several hours.
Although the flight response compared to the airplane I was flying was not very accurate, I still found the sim extremely helpful. Caveat: it depends what skills you are trying to perfect.
If you are mainly after "Can I keep the plane right side up in the presence of conflicting sensory inputs." obviously there's limited value because most of the sensory inputs are missing.
On the other hand if you are interested in refining things like the below I find it exceptionally helpful and far more efficient than training in the air:
- am I looking at the right thing at the right time?
- are the magnitude of my corrections on an instrument approach about right?
- did I execute my approach checklist effectively?
- am I organized for the miss?
- am I organized for a nearby alternate?
- do I prioritize correctly in emergencies (helpful to have a buddy control the emergency part of the sim)?
Since I am close to flying now I wanted to ask you if you have any experience with this flight simulator software.
How much money do I have to spend. Does it help? – is it an instrument that can keep you current.
The Instrument set up they have in there is very similar to my airplane.
I just remember when I took my instrument rating I had 1 hour of simulator – it did not do much for me at this time and I never tried it again.
