Bob have you tried the GPS functionality w/ the 3G sim card removed and being disconnected to wi-fi or other 'GPS' devices? [ie; stand-alone, not connected to any network]
I've got one sitting on my lap right now and it's not connected to either my wi-fi or 3G, it has no clue where on the face of the earth it is.. When I ask for directions it asks me to enable my wifi or 3G to assess my location. I've yet to see anyone [apple or otherwise] flat-out state that the iPad has a SAT receiver inside.. I'd love to/know for certain but for now, I have to assume the ommission is as good as proof that there is no receiver built in. I'd be most happy if someone could show or prove that there is infact a receiver as I'd have lot more faith in it over what I do now :) However, if it did, I would think it would at least know what continent I'm on w/ out being connected to something.
