My experience with Performance was
mixed.
The
good:
1.) contact with sales (Stuart) was
pleasant and prompt before the sale.
2.) the price was quite
competitive.
3.) the sales contract was clear
and complete.
4.) the engine arrived in good
condition
5.) at 300 hrs the engine is
running smooth and never needed GAMIjectors
6.) refund sent for the returned
A/C bracket (see #3 below)
7.) agreed to work on the engine at
no charge (see #4 below)
8.) repaired and return-shipped a
cylinder at no charge (see #5 below)
The
bad:
1.) the turbo oil sump was not
installed and had to be shipped later.
2.) 2 psi oil pressure traced
to an installed bent pressure valve.
3.) jury-rigged bracket for the A/C
was not usuable.
4.) starter adapter
leakage required the engine (plane attached) to be returned
for work (see #3 below).
5.) lost an exhaust valve seat at
200 hrs.
The
ugly:
1.) as problems arose Performance
stopped returning phone calls and e-mails.
2.) engine shipped 5 months
late.
3.) I was told the engine was
crated but would not ship until I wired the final payment to their bank. I
did so, and the engine still did not ship. A fellow builder visited
Performance 3 weeks later and discovered that my engine was still in the
building process (where it remained for months more).
4.) while doing maintenance on the
engine Performance caused a fire that burned the air conditioner and into
the aft bulkhead, smoke-damaged the interior, and required the avionics be
RTV for inspection and repair. This $30k insurance claim caused a rate
increase.
So in
summary although the engine seems to be fine I would not again go
through the irritation.
