Below is the text of a message to Lance after receiving a request from him
fro more information regarding six place aircraft. I'm sure all of you LIV
drivers will turn blood red at the idea of actually slowing down in order to
haul the whole family, but it seems that even with the slick designs from
Lancair that something has got to give. I for one could not possibly fly my
whole family around in an aircraft that I could not get insurance on. As
you can see from last night's digest, it looks as if Lancair has already
sold two of the new six place kits and adding my order would make three.
Not bad for something that hasn't even been designed yet.
Message to Lance:
I was contacted by telephone by the president of S-H after a Dr. friend of
mine requested info re: the GlaStar (he is not a pilot yet and wanted a
docile a/c for training etc.) Stoddard was in the design process of a new
project called the Siaira. It was to be built by a new company called
Phoenix Designs that was somewhat of a subsidiary (my understanding) of S-H.
The plane was/is (I assume was at this point) to be a six place high
performance low wing pressurized aircraft.
I feel that any 6 place needs to be a true six and it would be nice to have
a 4.5 hour range. With a useful load of one thousand pounds plus fuel for
4.5 hours (an additional 400-500 pounds I imagine). The plane would also
need to be docile enough to allow one to obtain insurance at a reasonable
price. I am sure glad that I checked into the insurance issue before buying
a IVP as I have 200 hours, 0 retract time and am now working on my
instrument ticket. The only plane that makes any sense for me is the ES,
which I bought. I would like to buy a six place with similar performance
numbers and an increased useful load. I feel that airplane is insurable and
although it would cost more to insure that the ES, I would also have more
hours by the time anything like that would be completed.
I would like you and your company to be the one's who produce the family kit
airplane. I think about the AOPA prize airplane their "Aero SUV" C206 and
cannot imagine purchasing a 206 after flying around near 200 knots in my
Super ES. I certainly don't want to pay the money to get into a Malibu, but
would like an airplane with that type of feel and look, but with modern
technology. [by the way check out www.wingco.com for a 5-place concept.
What do you think?]
I certainly would like to be the first to sign a letter of intent/purchase
or position agreement if you choose to develop such an aircraft.
Lance, just had to break away for a call, but had a breakthrough. Why not a
stretched Super ES w/ a turbo charged engine. Fixed gear for simplicity and
a rear door like either the Malibu or if that is not possible, like the
Saratoga?
Your comments are most welcome.
