In the big picture of building a 6 place like the Stallion in particular,
the doors are minor aspect in terms of work. The Stallion has a steel
frame with large tabs for door mounts. You could put in any type of doors
that you like. Some of the Stallion builders are putting in the more
conventional open-forward pilot door and a flip up large passenger door.
I elected to stay with the original design.

As for stick controls, all the Lancair's have stick controls... The
Stallion has a large center stick (actually dual) and control forces are
such that having this leverage is a good idea. I have flown the Stallion
and I would say that a side stick is out of the question, except for
perhaps Arnold. One of the builders is adapting a Cessna 182 yoke into
his Stallion. The elevator push rod is quite simple and the aileron is
not that much more complicated. In the overall picture, I'd say that
modifying both the doors and the control inputs are not a major design
change. You might be able to design something that would actually result
in less building time, particularly if you are handy with a TIG welder.

I closed a wing on my Stallion on Friday (good feeling). Here are some pix:

I agree with the statements on the CompPlanes; the specs are way
overstated and their construction leaves a lot to be desired.
